Paragliding in Voss Resort

Voss is a paragliders paradise and one of the best places for paragliding in western Norway and Norway.

The reason for that is due to the following considerations:

  • A mountain gondola that takes you to the top off the mountain (820 m.a.s.l.)
  • South facing start with good thermals
  • Approximately 600 meters in vertical
  • Main landing field in the middle of town by the lake “Vagnsvatnet”
  • Distance flying in many directions

Get to the top in no time

Starting at Voss Station (56 m.a.s.l.), the gondola brings you to Hangurstoppen (820 m.a.s.l.) in less than 9 minutes. Read more about our new gondola.

South and east facing starts at Hanguren

Hangurstoppen is the main take off for Voss Hang-and Paragliderklubb. This take off is located along the panorama walk (hiking trail), close to Hangurstoppen Restaurant/the top station for Voss Gondol. As the take-off is facing east, you should consider to start early (around 10-11 am). Please note that the start can be a bit uneven during summer. REMEMBER! Keep your distance from the gondola and cables.

The second paragliding take off is located 200 vertical meters on the right side of the old Hangursrestauranten. The take-off is located on a nice grassy, relative flat area that ends up in a marked triangle. Since the take-off is south facing, you will be able to enjoy all the thermals that the mountainside creates. Early in the day, you will find the thermals in the western corner, just to the left of the wind socket. Later in the day you will find them over the lift mast forward of the Hangursrestaurant. Note! Remember to stay clear of the cables. In the afternoon, the breeze will pick up. You will therefore get side winds at the take-off and it adds more risks to your flight. Problems during landing can also occur. If you pay attention to the lake «Vangsvatnet» you will see when the wind is changing. Fly down in time!
